Visa Entry

1、 Visa Notice

The Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the State of Eritrea on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders came into effect on April 15, 2015. According to the agreement, Chinese citizens holding diplomatic, official, or service ordinary passports who enter or transit Eritrea for a period not exceeding 60 days are exempt from visa requirements.

Chinese citizens holding private passports must obtain a visa at the Embassy of Ecuador in China before entering the country. For specific visa requirements and procedures, please inquire with the Embassy of Ecuador in China.

2、 Entry Notice

No registration card is required upon entry. Hold a valid passport and visa, and release them after being inspected by immigration officers. Except for diplomatic passport holders, Eritrean customs personnel will conduct random checks on luggage.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

Except for those holding diplomatic passports, inbound passengers who carry expensive electrical appliances such as high-end cameras, laptops, and camcorders must truthfully fill out the customs declaration form. After customs inspection upon departure, the original items will be taken out. Items used for commercial purposes are subject to taxation. Inbound passengers are also required to fill out a foreign exchange declaration form, and upon departure, they must present relevant consumption records and bank foreign exchange receipts. Strict foreign exchange controls are implemented in Ecuador, and no one is allowed to exchange foreign currency on the black market. Violators will be detained and punished. When leaving, foreign currency must not exceed $5000 and local currency must not exceed 1000 nanograms.

Residency and Naturalization

1、 Residence regulations

Personnel from Chinese companies in Ecuador are generally required to hold a work visa or a business visa with a stay period of 3 months when entering the country. After obtaining a work permit from the Ministry of Labor, holders of a work visa can apply for a one-year valid residence permit at the immigration office, and then apply for an extension upon expiration. Holding a business visa is not allowed to apply for residence, but upon expiration, one can apply for an extension of one month each time, up to a maximum of three extensions.

Individuals holding private passports must apply for an exit visa at the Eritrean immigration office before leaving the country.

2、 Naturalization Regulations

Recognize dual nationality. At the same time, it is stipulated that if one parent is an Eritrean citizen, the child shall have Eritrean nationality at birth. The immigration office of Eritrea shall be responsible for accepting the naturalization of foreigners. Applicants must be married and have resided in Ecuador for at least 3 years.

air traffic

There are two international airports in Eritrea (Asmara and Massawa, with Massawa Airport currently not operating to the public)
