Fiji's risk level is blue (low risk)
The overall social order in Fiji is stable. In recent years, the Fiji police have increased their security efforts, and the security situation in major towns is relatively good. However, cases of robbery, theft, rape, and other crimes have occurred from time to time in some areas.
Chinese citizens coming to Fiji should strengthen their awareness of safety precautions, avoid carrying large amounts of cash and valuable items with them when going out, and pay attention to guarding their carry on items such as handbags, wallets, mobile phones, jewelry, travel documents, etc. Reduce nighttime travel, try to travel with as many people as possible, and avoid traveling alone or with strangers to unfamiliar places. It is recommended to install necessary anti-theft facilities at home to avoid storing large amounts of cash and valuable items. If staying in a hotel, pay attention to closing doors and windows. When driving, be sure to lock the car doors. When taking a taxi, ask for a receipt and remember the car number. In case of criminal cases such as robbery and theft, report to the police in a timely manner.
Travel Reminder
1、 Please carry and keep your passport and other international travel documents with you (it is recommended to carry them close to your body when going out and keep them separate from your belongings), and keep a copy of the information page (with a photo page) with you. 2、 Chinese tourists who come to Fiji through Australia or New Zealand and wish to return to that country must carefully check their Australian/New Zealand visa before departure, whether it is a single entry or multiple entries, to avoid being unable to return due to incorrect entry times. At the same time, pay attention to checking the validity period of your Australian/New Zealand visa.
3、 When participating in maritime tourism projects, one should act within their means, pay attention to their own safety, and avoid swimming in the sea after drinking alcohol. It is recommended to learn emergency rescue knowledge and disposal measures in advance, and prepare life-saving protective equipment and supplies. When snorkeling, it is important to wear a life jacket (which is available on boats of all sizes in Fiji) and avoid moving alone in areas far from the shore. The offshore swimming area is generally equipped with warning buoys, floating lines, and warning poles, which must not be crossed. Do not venture into waters without warning signs. When encountering language barriers (Fiji Common English), you can ask someone next to you to communicate on your behalf. Fiji is an aviation hub in the South Pacific region, with direct flights to most Pacific island countries, and serves as a gateway for neighboring island countries to reach various parts of the world. More than a dozen domestic and foreign air transport companies, including Fiji Airways, have opened international flights to major cities in Australia, New Zealand, as well as cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore in Fiji. At present, there are no direct flights from mainland Chinese cities to Fiji. Generally, passengers choose to transit through Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore and other places to arrive in Fiji.
Nadi International Airport is the largest and most advanced international airport in the region, serving as the main airport for entering and exiting Fiji. The Naosori Airport near the capital Suva mainly operates domestic flights. In addition, Fiji has numerous small airports connecting major cities and islands.
Special Reminder:Currently, international flights in Fiji require check-in procedures to be completed at least 3 hours in advance. Please check the check-in time in a timely manner and bring your connecting flight ticket to avoid any delay in boarding.
Fiji has a national road length of over 7500 kilometers (2023 Fiji Road Authority data), with most roads located along the coast of the main island (i.e. Viti Levu), connecting major towns. The asphalt road from Suva to Nadi International Airport is about 200 kilometers long and takes over 3 hours (with a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour).
Fiji currently has no passenger railways.
Fiji provides convenient and comprehensive bus, taxi, car rental, and self driving services for both urban and intercity transportation.
Fiji, as an archipelago country and a transportation hub in the South Pacific region, has a relatively developed maritime industry. There are four well-equipped import and export ports in the country: Suva, Lautoka, Levuka, and Malo Port. Suva Port is the largest port in the country, capable of accommodating 42000 ton ships for docking. It has a container yard and six warehouses with a total area of 12000 square meters.
Each major town in Fiji has ports and docks, providing freight and passenger services with other islands, and water transportation is relatively convenient.
Shipping and port affairs are managed by Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd.
Fiji's urban transportation mainly relies on buses and taxis. It is convenient to take public buses in the city, and the price is relatively cheap.
Fiji is divided into three levels: municipalities, administrative regions, and provinces. There are 2 municipalities directly under the central government, 4 administrative regions, and 14 provinces in China.
The capital city of Suva is a municipality directly under the central government, located southeast of Viti Levu. It is the political and cultural center of the country and a famous natural harbor in the South Pacific.
Lautoka is the second largest city in Fiji, located on the northwest coast of Viti Levu, serving as the administrative center and main port in the western region.
Nadi town is located in the western part of Viti Levu, the largest island in the country. The sugar industry and tourism are important economic pillars in the local area. Nadi has the highest number of hotels in Fiji.
1、 Main products: sugarcane, cassava, taro, tuna, sea cucumber, black pearls, tropical fruits, etc.
2、 Price situation: Locally produced food, fruits, vegetables, etc. are relatively cheap.
3、 Currency and exchange rate: Fiji's currency is the Fijian dollar and cannot be freely exchanged. 1 Fei Yuan is approximately 0.44 US dollars, and 1 Fei Yuan is approximately 3.22 Chinese yuan (November 2023 data).
4、 Payment methods: Cash payment is commonly used in daily life, and credit cards are also commonly used locally, but may incur transaction fees. Credit cards with the China UnionPay logo can be used at most ATM and POS machines in Fiji. Some stores also accept WeChat Pay, but the settlement exchange rate (Fei Yuan: Chinese Yuan) may be higher. Please be aware of this in advance.
Special Reminder:Please use your credit card with caution in Fiji and pay attention to protecting your credit card password. If it is stolen or lost, please report it to the police and report the loss in a timely manner.
5、 Banking and Financial Services:
Fiji has six commercial banks: ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank, Bank of South Pacific Group, Bank of Baroda, Habib Bank, and Bred Bank.
Commercial banks can provide financial services such as savings, loans, remittances, and foreign exchange for both enterprises and individuals.
There are public hospitals in all major towns of Fiji, and a public healthcare system is implemented for Fijian citizens. However, the equipment and available medicines are limited, resulting in long and inefficient medical treatment times.
Private hospitals in Fiji have better medical equipment and wards than public hospitals, but they charge higher fees.
The main infectious disease is dengue fever, which can be effectively treated.
Special Reminder:Please take measures to prevent mosquitoes, as there is no rabies vaccine available locally. Beware of cats and dogs scratching and biting. If you are sick, seek medical attention promptly. If you are seriously ill, return to your home country for treatment as soon as possible to avoid delaying your condition.
1、 Holidays and festivals
Fiji is mainly composed of two major ethnic groups, the Fijian and the Indian, with multiple religions coexisting and numerous public holidays. In terms of religious festivals, there are both Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter, as well as Muslim holidays such as Eid al Fitr. In terms of ethnic festivals, Fijians celebrate traditional festivals such as Hibiscus Festival, while Indian festivals are represented by Dewali. Although the traditional Chinese New Year has not yet become a statutory holiday, it has gained a high level of popularity in Fiji. Fiji Independence Day (October 10th) is the National Day.

Fijians are fond of drinking Kava, and the grandest and most sacred ceremony in the village is the Kava Drinking Ceremony, which is also the highest courtesy that Fijians offer to their guests. Kava is a beverage formed by kneading and adding water from the roots of a pepper shrub called Yaqona in the local area. During the ceremony, the elders in the village recited prayers, and the villagers presented different gifts to the distinguished guests. Several high-ranking people sat around the Kava basin, filled with water. One person continuously kneaded the powder of pepper tree roots into a paste in the basin, and then served it in a wooden bowl. Starting from the distinguished guests, everyone took turns drinking. This is the most important social etiquette with traditional Fijian characteristics.
