Visa Entry

1、 Visa

According to the laws and regulations of Kazakhstan, there are a total of 39 types of visas for traveling to Kazakhstan, including short-term, long-term, diplomatic, official, and investment visas. Holders of Chinese diplomatic or official passports who stay in Kazakhstan for no more than 30 days are exempt from visa application, and those who exceed the deadline must apply for a residence visa. There is no need to apply for a visa to enter or leave Kazakhstan with a Kazakh alien residence permit. Holders of Hong Kong SAR passports are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 14 days in Kazakhstan, while holders of Macau SAR passports need to apply for a visa before coming to Kazakhstan.  

The Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Mutual Visa Exemption has come into effect on November 10, 2023. According to this agreement, Chinese citizens who enter, exit or transit Kazakhstan for personal affairs, business activities (including negotiation, signing contracts, providing consulting services and other business activities), tourism, medical care, international transportation and transit purposes, and hold valid travel documents (Chinese official ordinary passport, general passport, travel document) as stipulated in this agreement, are exempt from visa application if they stay in Kazakhstan for no more than 30 days per visit from the date of entry, and for a cumulative stay of no more than 90 days per 180 days. For reasons and deadlines that do not comply with the provisions of this agreement, the corresponding visa must be obtained before entering Kazakhstan. You can apply for a visa to Kazakhstan at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China, Consulate General in Shanghai, Consulate General in Xi'an, Consulate General in Hong Kong, or visa agency in Urumqi (only for Chinese citizens of Xinjiang nationality). The visa application type must match the purpose of travel, otherwise it may be refused entry by the Harbin border inspection department.

The issuance of visas by embassies and consulates abroad in Kazakhstan requires approval from within the country and obtaining a "return visa number" before issuance, resulting in a longer processing time for visas. Ha doesn't apply for a visa on arrival. 2、 Entry and exit

According to the regulations of Kazakhstan, after foreigners enter Kazakhstan, the inviting party (including accommodation hotels) in Kazakhstan shall notify the immigration department of foreigners' entry information or residence information within three working days, and log in to the Kazakhstan e-government website https:// Eqonaq.kz/Fill in relevant information (including information on underage children accompanying you) and submit it online, or submit materials in writing to the immigration agency in Kazakhstan. Foreign citizens do not need to personally go to the immigration department for registration. Processing this service is free of charge.

Foreigners who enter the country temporarily must leave the country before their visas expire. If they leave the country after the expiration of their visas, they must pay a fine. Those who leave the country after the expiration of their visas may be detained if the circumstances are serious. If you lose your documents after entering the country, you must apply for a new international travel document and immediately go to the immigration office to apply for an exit visa before leaving.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

If you carry cash or checks worth over $10000 (or other equivalent currency) with you upon entry, or carry or transport items weighing over 50 kilograms per person, you must declare them to customs. When leaving the country, the customs declaration form filled out at the time of entry must be presented. The amount of cash or checks carried should not exceed the declared amount upon entry, and if it exceeds, proof of origin must be provided. If carrying a large amount of foreign currency without customs declaration, once discovered, in addition to confiscation, it will also be convicted according to the laws of Kazakhstan. It is strictly prohibited to carry drugs, weapons, and other items. Carrying alcohol products must not exceed 3 liters, and the carrier must be a person over 18 years old.

Common items that require written declaration upon entry include:

Passengers' personal mobile phones, medicines, and jewelry products do not need to be declared. If there is no need to declare items, they can enter through the green channel.

Residency and Naturalization

The law of Kazakhstan does not recognize dual nationality. Those who acquire other nationalities must submit a naturalization statement report to the Ministry of Internal Affairs or Kazakhstan's overseas institutions within 30 days, otherwise their Kazakh nationality will be revoked and they will be subject to legal sanctions. When a newborn is born, if both parents have Kazakh nationality, the child will have Kazakh nationality regardless of where they are born. When a newborn is born, if one of the parents is of Kazakh nationality and meets the following conditions, the child has Kazakh nationality: the child was born in Kazakhstan; The child was born abroad, but the parents or one of them had a permanent residence in Kazakhstan at the time of the child's birth.

Try to minimize nighttime travel and choose city buses or regular taxis for transportation. The main natural disasters in Kazakhstan are mudslides, earthquakes, etc., which often occur in the southern mountainous areas, such as Almaty Oblast. Blizzards often occur in the north during winter. Please note during an earthquake:

1、 Stay away from external walls, windows, glass, and tall furniture, quickly hide under a sturdy table or under low and stable furniture, or lean against inner wall pillars, and protect your head with blankets, seat cushions, and helmets.

2、 Quickly extinguish gas, cigarette butts, or other sources of ignition, turn off power, and avoid indirect disasters caused by earthquakes.

3、 Unless the house is relatively old, severely cracked, or there is a large open space outside, it is safer to stay indoors than outdoors.

4、 Avoid taking elevators.

5、 If you are in a public place, do not rush out of the door to avoid stepping on or squeezing yourself.

6、 If you are walking on a pedestrian overpass or underground passage, you should leave as soon as possible. Stay away from construction sites.

7、 If you are driving, you should immediately slow down and park your car on the side of the safety island, and wait until after the earthquake before driving. Do not enter long bridges, embankments, or tunnels. If you have already entered, leave as soon as possible.

At present, the airlines that offer direct flights between China and Kazakhstan include Air China, China Southern Airlines, Astana Airlines, and Skate Airlines. The traffic rules in Harbin are generally consistent with those in China, and vehicles must drive on the right side. Vehicles must yield to pedestrians on the sidewalk, otherwise they will be punished. You must fasten your seat belt while driving. Right turning vehicles must follow traffic signals, meaning that without a right turn signal, vehicles are not allowed to turn right when the red light is on. During daytime driving, the daytime running lights must be turned on. Chinese driver's license cannot be directly used locally. The road conditions in Harbin are complex, and it is recommended that first-time travelers avoid driving for long distances.

Urban transportation

The public transportation system in Astana is generally developed and there is no subway. You can call the taxi company or book a taxi through the mobile app.

You can take a taxi from Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport to the embassy (44 Independence Street), which costs about 7000-8000 tenge (approximately 113-130 yuan). You can take a taxi from Almaty International Airport to the Consulate General (No. 12 Baytasov Street), which costs about 2000 tenge (approximately 32 RMB).  

There is a subway line in Almaty city with 9 stations and a total length of 11.3 kilometers. The one-way subway fare is 80 tenge per person. The one-way fare for city buses is 150 tenge per person (in cash) or 80 tenge per person (with a bus card).

1. Astana

Astana is located in the central northern part of Kazakhstan and was formerly known as Akmola. In October 1997, the capital of Kazakhstan was relocated from Almaty to Akmola by presidential decree. In May 1998, it was renamed Astana (meaning "capital" in Kazakh). In March 2019, it was renamed Nur Sultan. In September 2022, it will be renamed Astana again.

Astana is one of the youngest capitals in the world and one of the most modern cities in Central Asia, with a population of approximately 1.4095 million (as of October 2023) and an area of 797 square kilometers. One of the largest rivers in central and northern Kazakhstan, the Ishim River, flows through the city. It belongs to a typical continental climate, with frequent winds throughout the year, severe cold in winter, and frequent snowfall. The city is an important railway hub connecting southern Harbin, Siberia, and the Ural region, with well-developed road transportation. Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport is capable of handling large passenger aircraft and offers international flights to cities such as Moscow, Beijing, and Istanbul.

2. Almaty

Almaty is the economic and cultural center of Kazakhstan, located in the hilly area at the foot of Alatau in Ili, just north of the Tianshan Mountains in southeastern Kazakhstan, surrounded by mountains on three sides. The area is approximately 682 square kilometers, with an altitude of 700-900 meters, and a population of approximately 2.2112 million (as of October 2023). Known for its abundant production of apples, Almaty means' father of apples' in Kazakh language. Almaty has a long history and was once one of the trade, handicraft, and agricultural centers on the ancient Silk Road. It has now become a tourist city with unique scenery and the largest trading center in Central Asia.

3. Chimkent

Chimkent City is located at the foot of the Ugam Mountains, near Uzbekistan. It is one of the ancient cities in Central Asia, a key town on the ancient Silk Road, and an important industrial and cultural center in Kazakhstan. The area is 1162 square kilometers and the population is approximately 1.2132 million (as of October 2023).

4. Aktobe, please

Aktobe is located in the northern part of Hassi and is the capital of Aktobe State. The area is 297 square kilometers and the population is approximately 560000 (as of February 2023). Aktobe is an important economic center in western Kazakhstan.

5. Karaganda

Karaganda is located in central Kazakhstan and is the capital of Karaganda Oblast, 260 kilometers away from the capital Astana. The area is about 543 square kilometers and the population is about 520000 (as of February 2023).

6. Ust Kamenogorsk

Ust Kamenogorsk is the capital of Donghae Oblast, located at the confluence of the Urba River and the Irtysh River. The city covers an area of 543 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 400000 (as of February 2023). The metallurgical industry in the city is well-developed, with large-scale lead-zinc and rare metal smelting plants.

Kazakhstan is rich in natural resources, with over 90 proven mineral deposits. There are large reserves of oil, natural gas, uranium, copper, coal, and iron. The main crops include wheat, potatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, etc. The overall price is higher than domestic prices, but there are significant differences in crop prices in different regions and seasons. The currency unit in Kazakhstan is tenge, with a ratio of approximately 465:1 to the US dollar (as of November 2023, please refer to real-time information for exchange rates). Insurance Medical

After independence, Harbin implemented two systems of paid and free medical care, and has implemented a medical insurance system. Customs taboos

Most residents of Kazakhstan are Muslims and do not eat pork or animal blood. The traditional festivals in Harbin mainly include Eid al Fitr, Naurus Festival, and Eid al Adha. Men are not allowed to wear shorts when entering religious places such as mosques, while women are allowed to wear headscarves, long skirts, and revealing clothing.
