Visa Entry

According to the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Mauritius on Mutual Visa Exemption, Chinese citizens who hold valid Chinese passports, round-trip airfare orders, accommodation certificates, and proof of economic ability, and enter, exit, or transit Mauritius for a stay of no more than 60 days are exempt from visa application. Visa precautions: According to Mauritian law, holders of tourist visas are not allowed to work in Mauritius. Violators will be deported, blacklisted, and not allowed to re-enter the country.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

Individuals are prohibited from bringing the following items into the country: firearms and ammunition, drugs, publications and audiovisual products with obscene content, vegetables, flowers and crops, animals, gold coins, gold bars, prohibited fishing equipment, etc.

The following items are limited to entry: personal items with a value not exceeding 7500 rupees; Adult travelers are not allowed to carry more than 1 liter of liquor, 2 liters of wine and beer, and 250 grams of tobacco.

Penalties for carrying illegal items or failing to declare customs according to regulations: If the items carried exceed the above limit, please declare through the red channel upon entry; Those who do not declare will have their items confiscated and fined upon seizure.

Residency and Naturalization

(1) Residence Policy

Visitors to Mauritius must stay in Mauritius for the number of days approved by their visa; Overdue will be considered illegal stay, and violators will be deported once verified.

Main types of residence: There are two types of residence permits: long-term residence and short-term residence. Short term residence is further divided into three types: occupational, work, and residence permits. Long term and short-term residence permits are issued by the Mao Immigration Bureau, while occupational and work permits are issued by the Mao Ministry of Labor.

Application requirements: Investors applying must provide a business plan, proof of funds from a financial institution, company registration certificate, and financial statements; For self employment applications, a business plan, proof of funds from a financial institution, company registration certificate, or personal professional qualification certificate must be provided; Technicians applying need to provide employment contracts, company registration certificates, personal professional qualification certificates, and employment certificates.

(2) Nationality Policy

The following individuals hold Mauritian nationality: I was born in Mauritius before September 1, 1995, and my parents are either Mauritian citizens or foreign citizens; I was born in Mauritius after September 1, 1995, and one of my parents is a citizen of Mauritius; I was born abroad, and one of my parents is a Mauritian citizen born in Mauritius. Mauritius recognizes dual or multiple nationality.

Conditions for foreigners to apply for naturalization: those who have good conduct, can speak English or other common Maoist languages, and meet any of the following conditions can apply for naturalization in Mauritius:

1. Underage adopted children have Mao nationality from the date of approval of adoption.

2. Foreign citizens have resided continuously in Mauritius for more than 12 months prior to the date of application, and have accumulated a minimum of 5 years of residence within the 7 years prior to their continuous residency.

If the foreign spouse of a Mauritian citizen resides with the citizen in Mauritius for more than four years, the foreign spouse of the citizen may register as a Mauritian citizen.

4. Invest more than 500000 US dollars in Mao and reside continuously in Mao for no less than 2 years.

air traffic

The Ramgoolam International Airport, located in the Praisans area in the southern part of Mao Island, was built with assistance from China. The terminal covers an area of 57000 square meters and can accommodate large passenger planes for takeoff and landing. Customs taboos

Mauritius has different religious beliefs among its various ethnic groups. Indian descendants predominantly follow Hinduism (48%), Muslims follow Islam (16.6%), French, English, and Creole descendants predominantly follow Catholicism (23.6%) and Christianity (8.6%), while Chinese mainly follow Catholicism, Christianity, and Buddhism.

Out of respect for different religious beliefs, cattle, pork, and related foods are usually not eaten. When Mauritians meet, both parties shake hands or kiss on the cheeks. Shaking hands is sufficient for the first meeting, and familiar or friendly male or female friends can kiss each other on the left and right cheeks.

Mao's main holidays include New Year's Day (January 1-2), Independence Day (also known as Republic Day, March 12), Christmas Day (December 25), Indian Lantern Festival (between October and November), Shiva's Day (between February and March), Muslim Eid al Fitr (between April and May), and Chinese Spring Festival (on the first day of the first lunar month).
