Visa Entry

1、 Visa

According to the agreement between China and Mexico, Chinese citizens holding diplomatic or official passports can enjoy visa free treatment for short-term travel to Mexico.

Chinese citizens who have already obtained a temporary or permanent residency card in Mexico do not need a visa to re-enter Mexico.

Chinese citizens holding Hong Kong or Macau SAR passports can enter Mexico visa free and stay for 90 days.

Except for the above situations, Chinese citizens must obtain a visa to travel to Mexico.Mexican visas are generally divided into four categories: tourist visas, student visas, business visas, and technical visas. Business and technical visas are divided into two types: for-profit (i.e. engaging in paid activities or earning income) and non-profit. If traveling to Mexico for leisure, business, or any other purposeFree activities not exceeding 180 daysThen apply for a visitor visa.Special note: Starting from October 22, 2023, visa application is also required for transit in Mexico (non entry).

Please make sure to obtain the corresponding type of visa according to the true purpose of visiting Mexico, in order to avoid being refused entry due to the lack of visa or visa type not matching the purpose of entry. Chinese citizens are particularly reminded not to attempt to pass by with other types of visas due to the difficulty of applying for for-profit visas.

Only in the following situationsNo need for Mexican visa

1. Canada, United States of America, Japan, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any Schengen area country, and Pacific Union member countries (Chile, Colombia, and Peru)Permanent residency documents.

2. From Canada, the United States of America, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or any country in the Schengen AreaValid Visa.

2、 Entry and exit

Before entering the country, please prepare the following materials for reference. If the immigration office deems that the information or submitted materials of the incoming person are untrue or do not meet the requirements, a second verification will be conducted on the incoming person:

1. Passport, valid for more than 6 months without scratches or alterations.

2. Information related to staying in Mexico, such as hotel reservations, return flight itinerary, and travel itinerary.

What industry will be engaged in in China and what industry will be engaged in in Mexico. The company's Spanish authorization letter or employment certificate, or proof that the company has borne the relevant expenses.

3. Copies of technology transfer contracts and patent certificates. Trademark, purchase and sale of mechanical equipment, training of technical personnel, or any proof of investment attraction, joint venture, etc., or proof of appointment by the shareholders' meeting of a company legally established in Mexico.

4. Invitation letters or agendas for meetings, events of public or private organizations or institutions must include the full name, landline phone number, mobile phone number, detailed address, email address, and workplace of the inviter. Prove that they will engage in free activities upon entry, and indicate the purpose of the visit and expected duration of stay. If the institution bears the relevant expenses, a reply letter must be attached at the same time.

5. Invitation letter or admission letter from any institution. The maximum duration for participating in courses, learning, research, or training programs offered by the Mexican national education system is 180 days.

6. Information related to permanent residence or place of origin.

7. Living fund vouchers in Mexico, such as cash, credit cards, etc.

Please note that the situation at Tijuana and Mexicali airports in Baja California is special, and even if you take flights within Mexico, you must go through immigration inspection. Please be sure to carry legal entry and exit documents with you.

3、 If the person is refused entry after the second verification, they will be deported.

The repatriation flight schedule is determined by the airline. In general, airlines will arrange for the parties to depart on the original or nearest flight, but there are also cases where the parties wait for three to four days due to the airline's sold out tickets on the same day or the next day, no available seats, or too few operating flights.

During the period of verification and waiting for repatriation, the parties involved are not allowed to use devices such as mobile phones and computers, but their personal safety and humanitarian treatment will be guaranteed. It is recommended that friends and family not panic and wait patiently. The parties may apply to use the immigration office's telephone (instead of their own mobile phone) to make a call to the outside world or contact relatives and friends to report their safety. To avoid the occurrence of "loss of contact",It is recommended that the parties actively apply to the immigration office for contact with the outside world.

4、 In recent years, the main reasons for Chinese citizens being denied entry include:

1. The provided materials are insufficient to support the purpose of the visit to Mexico. If invited to visit relatives, friends, negotiate cooperation or provide technical support in Mexico, but without bringing an invitation letter issued by relatives, partners or companies, or if the invitation letter is written in a language other than Spanish or English, immigration officials will not accept it; Or even if carrying an invitation letter, there is no contact phone number and address for the inviter on it; Or the inviter does not answer the phone, or the situation described on the phone contradicts the information provided by the parties involved.

2. The visa held does not match the actual purpose of entry. To conduct business inspections in Mexico but hold a tourist visa, or to provide technical support to relevant companies in Mexico but hold a business visa or non-profit technical visa. In practice, Chinese companies occasionally dispatch employees to Mexico to provide technical guidance or business training to their branches, subsidiaries, or partners in Mexico, but the parties involved are refused entry and repatriation due to holding business visas or non-profit technical visas.

3. Inconsistent answers to immigration officials' questions. At the beginning, it was called 'business investigation in Mexico', but later changed its name to 'tourism in Mexico'; If I first said I came to work, but found that the visa type was incorrect, I changed my name and said I came to visit relatives; If one claims to be visiting relatives and then claims to have no relatives or friends in Mexico.

4. Present false and forged documents and materials. If presenting a forged Mexican passport or residence card to apply for entry, or presenting a residence card or visa approval letter obtained illegally through bribery.

Residency and Naturalization

Mexico believes that migration has promoted its own development and diversified cultural and social life, so it is open and tolerant to foreigners who come to Mexico to stay and naturalize, and its policies are relatively loose. Foreigners who have legally resided in Mexico for more than 7 years can apply for Mexican nationality conditionally.

For more information on policies and interpretations, please refer to the website of the Mexican National Immigration Agency (in both English and Spanish versions) and the website of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

There are currently three orange (high-risk) areas in Mexico, while the rest of the areas are blue.

Specifically, the orange regions are Guerrero, Tamaulipas, and Chihuahua.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Chinese citizens to travel cautiously to the above-mentioned areas in Mexico in the near future. Local personnel and institutions have closely monitored the development of the situation, maintained high vigilance, strengthened security precautions and emergency preparations, and ensured personal and property safety. In case of emergency, please report to the police in a timely manner and contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in the local area.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and overseas embassies and consulates will continue to closely monitor changes in the overseas security situation, dynamically adjust relevant risk assessments, and release and update corresponding security reminders in real time on platforms such as the China Consular Service Network. Please continue to pay attention.

The Embassy in Mexico reminds Chinese citizens to strengthen security precautions

The Embassy in Mexico reminds Chinese citizens to strengthen security precautions

Recently, the social security situation in Mexico has continued to deteriorate, with frequent cases of theft and robbery of Chinese citizens, and even violent crimes such as kidnapping and carjacking, resulting in personal injury and loss of documents and property.

The Embassy in Mexico reminds Chinese citizens residing or planning to temporarily come to Mexico to attach great importance to safety issues, strengthen security precautions, actively understand and comply with Mexican laws and regulations, familiarize themselves with and respect Mexican customs and habits, and maximize the prevention and avoidance of security risks.

1、 Pay attention to warning information. Browse the China Consular Services website to learn about Mexico's country specific information. Pay attention to the dynamic security information released by the "Consular Express" WeChat official account, the "Voice of the Consul" microblog, the "Chinese Consul" APP, the website of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, the Consulate General in Tijuana and the WeChat official account (respectively "China Mexico Overseas Chinese Service" and "Chinese Consulate General in Tijuana"), take notes and carry relevant emergency contact information, so as to be prepared.

2、 Pay attention to personal safety. Try to avoid traveling to areas with sparse population, poor public security, poor communication, or safety hazards. Avoid going to bars, nightclubs, or casinos and try to avoid traveling alone or at night as much as possible. Maintain smooth communication with family and friends, and inform them of the itinerary and contact information in advance when traveling. When interacting with strangers, it is especially important to be vigilant. If a stranger approaches or invites you to another location, be vigilant. Choose safe transportation and take taxis or ride hailing services to strengthen prevention measures. At traffic lights or congested roads, be cautious of illegal individuals hijacking vehicles. In case of violent robbery, remember that personal safety is the most important, and avoid showing off or getting too entangled. In case of emergency or sudden situation, remain calm and report to the police in a timely manner.

3、 Pay attention to property safety. Tourist attractions, subways, buses, and other densely populated areas and places are prone to theft cases. Properly store valuable items, distribute money as much as possible, and avoid flaunting wealth. Handbags and backpacks should be carried on the chest as much as possible. Be wary of 'gang crime', and be sure to take good care of your documents and belongings if you encounter strangers approaching or attempting to divert your attention. Waiting at traffic lights at intersections is especially important to prevent being robbed. Do not leave valuable items in the car. When driving or parking, try to lock large luggage in the trunk and avoid placing it in the front and rear seats. If there are many items in the car, it is best to have someone take care of them when parking.

4、 Pay attention to traffic safety. The traffic regulations are the same as those in China. It is recommended to wear seat belts when driving or riding, and children should use safety seats. Do not fatigue, exceed the speed limit, get drunk, or drive without a license. If you violate traffic regulations, please cooperate with the police in law enforcement. Beware of "fake police officers". If it is confirmed that there has been no violation of traffic regulations, it is recommended to require the other party to present a police officer certificate or issue a formal fine while ensuring personal safety. If you have any questions, you can report to the police to verify the other party's information. Pay attention to queuing up for customs clearance at border land ports and beware of "fake police".

5、 Prevent natural disasters. Mexico is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. Please closely track safety reminder information, pay attention to local government department websites and news media reports, follow local department guidance, and avoid risks properly. Proactively understand disaster prevention knowledge and make emergency preparations.

6、 Pay attention to document security. Please make a copy of your passport for retention, and be sure to bring a photocopy, a backup passport photo, and an electronic version of the same version photo (preferably engraved on a CD). Lost or damaged documents will cause great inconvenience to life and travel, please be sure to keep them properly. Pay attention to checking the validity period of your passport and visa. Some countries' immigration departments and airlines do not accept passports with a validity period of less than six months. Please replace them in a timely manner before traveling.

7、 Comply with laws and regulations. Comply with Mexican laws and regulations, respect local customs, operate legally, and travel in a civilized manner. If you encounter legal issues, you should consult a professional lawyer or seek legal assistance, protect your rights through legal channels, and do not attempt to bribe law enforcement personnel.

natural disaster

Mexico is located in the Pacific Rim seismic zone and is situated in an earthquake prone area. Coastal areas are prone to hurricanes in summer.

Mexico experienced major earthquakes of magnitude 8 or above in 1932, 1985, 1995, and 2017, resulting in severe human and property damage. To enhance the public's awareness and ability to prevent earthquakes, all public places have temporary earthquake concentration areas on vacant land (marked by white arrows pointing to the center of a large circle in all four directions).

Special reminder: Chinese citizens traveling to Mexico are advised to learn more about earthquake protection knowledge before departure. Do not panic when encountering an earthquake, quickly use the protective knowledge you have learned, try to hide in a safe corner, and wait for rescue. Do not use elevators during earthquakes. Please pay attention to the weather forecast and relevant measures announced by the hotel in a timely manner. Never go out to sea, swim or engage in other unsafe activities during bad weather.

FDA

The overall food hygiene situation in formal shops and restaurants in Mexico is relatively good. But in tourist areas or roadside food stalls, food safety is difficult to guarantee.

It is recommended to purchase food or dine at regular stores and restaurants.

4、 Main modes of transportation to and from the airport

There are buses and taxis running between the airport and the city center in major cities of Mexico.

land transport

1、 Highways and railways

Mexico has the widest road network in Latin America, with almost all regions within the country connected by roads. There are a total of 14 main highways in Mexico, most of which are toll roads, connecting the capitals of various states, border cities, and various seaports. As a result, long-distance buses have become the main mode of long-distance transportation in Mexico. The main long-distance bus companies and their contact information are as follows:

ADO, 51-33-24-24.

FLECHA AMARILLA, 01 800 849-9004.

ESTRELLA ROJA, 01 800 712-2284.

PRIMERA PLUS, 01 800 375-7587.

Railway transportation is one of the main modes of transportation for Mexico's import and export goods. The railway network is centered around Mexico City, with three north-south main lines concentrated in the central plateau to the north and one northwest southeast main line to the south, leading to Central and South America. The total length of the Mo Railway is 26000 kilometers, and most of the railway lines have been privatized and mainly used for freight transportation.

At present, there are only two passenger routes in Mexico, one from Chihuahua city to Los Mochis on the Pacific coast, with a total length of 673 kilometers; The other route runs from Oaxaca to Tehuacan, with a total length of over 100 kilometers, mainly for tourism services.

2、 Car rental and self driving situation

There are multiple legitimate car rental companies in Mexico, with counters located at major city airports, making car rental very convenient. The road conditions between Mocheng cities are good, making it convenient to rent a car for travel. Renting a car is priced based on different factors such as the model, brand, and usage days of the rented vehicle. Vehicles rented in the United States and driven by non Mexican nationals can be brought into Mexico through Tiwa for travel.

Special Reminder:

(1) Vehicles passing through the entire area of Mexico drive on the right side.

(2) Vehicles and pedestrians should abide by traffic rules. But the pedestrian road facilities are not perfect. Except for the city center area, there are no clearly marked pedestrian crossings on the ground at intersections in the capital city of Mexico, and there are few bike lanes available. Motor vehicles have a fast speed in urban areas, and pedestrians and cyclists need to be cautious when crossing the road. Hit and run incidents and drunk driving during holidays occur from time to time.

(3) Except for the highway network, there have been incidents of car blocking and robbery on other highways at night and in remote areas. Robbers disguised as police officers intercept vehicles on the road and robbery incidents are frequently reported in the media. If driving, it is advisable to choose highways as much as possible and avoid driving at night.

water communication

The sea freight method undertakes the task of transporting international goods, domestic goods, and inbound and outbound passengers in Mexico. There are a total of 106 ports in Mexico (including 96 sea ports), and there are passenger and freight liners with many countries in Europe, America, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Asia. The larger ports in Mexico are mainly located on the Pacific coast, including Manzanillo Port, L á zaro C á rdenas Port, Salina Cruz Port, Guaymas Port, Mazatl á n Port, and Ensenada Port. The main ports on the Gulf Coast of Mexico are Veracruz, Tampico, and Coatzacoalcos.

Urban transportation

There are cheap and convenient bus networks and taxis in various cities in Mexico. Some big cities have subways and intercity railways.

The transportation network in the capital city of Mexico City mainly consists of three major systems: subway, bus, and tram, including small buses and taxis. The bus system is cheap, has a wide range of routes, and is in average condition. The Metrob ú s bus rapid transit system was put into use in June 2005 and is in good condition with dedicated lanes. Each station is equipped with security guards to maintain order, which is safer and more comfortable than ordinary buses and subways. To ride Metrob ú s, a dedicated card needs to be purchased, which can be purchased at the automatic recharge machine at each station.

Metrob ú s operating hours: Monday to Saturday: 4:30-24:00, Sunday and holidays: 5:00-24:00.

The subway in Mexico City was first built in April 1969 and now has 12 lines (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, 12) with a total mileage of over 200 kilometers. Subway operating hours: Monday to Friday: 5:00-24:00, Saturday: 6:00-24:00, Sunday and holidays: 7:00-24:00. The subway fare is 5 pesos (free for the elderly, disabled, children under 5 years old, and police officers).

There are three types of taxis in Mexico City, namely Taxi Libre, Taxi de Sitio, and Radio Taxi. Taxi Libre has no fixed operating location and is carried by customers waiting on the roadside (high-risk, not recommended to take); The starting price is 8.74 pesos, with an additional charge of 1.07 pesos per 250 meters or 45 seconds. The nighttime (23:00-06:00, the same below) fee will increase by 20% on the above basis. Taxi de Sitio has a fixed boarding location and can also call nearby locations to hail a taxi; The starting price is 13.10 pesos, with an additional charge of 1.30 pesos per 250 meters or 45 seconds. The nighttime (23:00-06:00, the same below) fee will increase by 20% on the above basis. Radio Taxi requires a phone call to book a ride; The starting price is 27.30 pesos, with an additional charge of 1.84 pesos per 250 meters or 45 seconds. In Mexico, acquaintances usually greet each other with hugs and cheek kisses. In grand social occasions, men will politely kiss women's hands. When foreigners meet Mexicans for the first time, smiles and handshakes are the most common greetings. Salutation is to add "Mr.", "Miss" or "Mrs." and other honorific titles before the surname of the contact object. It is customary in Mexico to add "Doctor", "Master", "Bachelor" or their position before the surname when addressing the other person, as a sign of respect. But with the popularization of modern fast-paced lifestyles, the number of Mexicans who go to business and private events on time is increasing.

On formal occasions, Mexicans dress solemnly, wearing suits or skirts.

4、 Catering

Mexican cuisine is rich and diverse, showcasing world delicacies. The traditional foods of Mexicans are corn, beans, and chili peppers, and corn tortillas and chili peppers are world-renowned. Mexicans enjoy eating chili peppers, and even fruits are sprinkled with chili powder. Cacti, which are abundant in Mexico, are delicious vegetables. Insects such as tequila, grasshoppers, and ant eggs are also popular foods among Mexicans.

There are many food stalls on the streets of Mexico selling corn tortillas, fruits, etc. For hygiene reasons, it is recommended to consume them with caution.

5、 Tipping "culture"

Mexico has a 'culture' of paying and receiving tips. Passengers dining at regular restaurants usually have to pay an additional service fee equivalent to 10% to 15% of the meal cost. At places where passengers go, such as parking lots, airports, supermarket payment counters, gas stations, etc., there will be people actively assisting, and appropriate tips ranging from 5 to 10 pesos should be given depending on the situation.
