Customs epidemic prevention and control

Oman Customs stipulates that, except for some duty-free goods, the general tariff rate is 5%, but 100% tariff is levied on tobacco and its products, pork, alcoholic beverages, etc; The value of the gift carried shall not exceed 300 riyals; Individual alcoholic beverages (48 cans of beer or other alcoholic beverages in bottles not exceeding 2 liters) and tobacco (400 cigarettes) carried by non Muslim travelers are exempt from tax; Customs requires that those entering the country with 6000 riyals or other equivalent currencies (equivalent to 108000 RMB) or more must declare. It is not allowed to carry military weapons (including simulated weapons such as fireworks and firecrackers), drugs, and pornographic publications. Residency and Naturalization

Foreigners who work or reside in Oman for a long time must have a guarantee from an Omani company or individual, and apply to the Ministry of Labor and the Immigration Bureau for quotas; A implements a guarantor system, which imposes many restrictions on foreign nationals working and doing business in A due to the presence of guarantors.

Oman does not recognize dual citizenship and requires residents to have resided in Oman for at least 30 years before being eligible to apply for citizenship. The procedures are complex and strict, making citizenship very difficult. So far, no overseas Chinese have obtained Omani citizenship.

Hurricane disasters may occur in summer; During the rainy season from November to March of the following year, urban areas are prone to waterlogging disasters. Do not drive in river valleys on rainy days to prevent the danger of flash floods; During the hot season from April to October, the temperature is generally around 40 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of over 50 degrees Celsius. The humidity is high and the ultraviolet rays are strong. Therefore, attention should be paid to heatstroke prevention, sun protection, and cooling; When traveling to sparsely populated deserts, try to avoid traveling alone; When going to the beach or going out to play, protective measures should be taken to prevent wind and waves and avoid drowning accidents.

FDA

The local food hygiene is good, with Muslims eating halal meals and abstaining from pork. Drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited in most places. But some high-end hotels approved by the government have bars that can provide alcoholic beverages (the local legal drinking age is 21 years old or above).

The local tap water is desalinated seawater with poor water quality. It is recommended to drink bottled purified water or bottled mineral water.

air traffic

Muscat International Airport is the aviation transportation hub of Oman, with Salalah Airport being an important airport in its southern region, and Dukum, Suhal, and Al Khatib airports being important provincial airports. There are direct flights of Oman Airlines between Muscat and Guangzhou (which have been grounded due to the COVID-19 and have not been recovered yet.). Road transportation is the most important and convenient mode of transportation within Oman. The road from the capital city of Muscat to southern Sarala is over 1000 kilometers long, making it the longest road in Oman.

Local vehicles drive on the right side, and the main traffic rules are similar to those in China.

Oman's traffic regulations are very strict, and violations will face high fines and even detention. For those who have been driving for no more than 3 months in the short term, they can hold a domestic driver's license and an international driving permit (commonly known as an international driver's license) to drive vehicles. If staying in Oman for more than 3 months, one must obtain an Omani driver's license. Customs taboos

Oman is an Islamic country with a relatively traditional social atmosphere, and visitors should respect the local Islamic cultural customs. Oman does not eat pork or drink alcohol, but foreigners are allowed to drink in licensed hotels. Female visitors should be careful not to dress too provocatively. If entering a mosque, they should wear a headscarf, long skirt or pants, and long sleeved tops, and the color and pattern of the clothing should not be too dazzling. Female Muslims are not allowed to be photographed without permission. Government buildings and military sites cannot be photographed. During Ramadan, it is not allowed to eat, drink, smoke, etc. in public places during the day. Omani people consider their left hand unclean and avoid using it to touch food or others. They must use their right hand when interacting with others. Oman has a habit of serving coffee to guests. Generally, after taking a seat, the waiter holds a delicate copper pot and pours a small cup of coffee for the guest, which contains spices such as cardamom.
