The Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Personnel Holding Diplomatic, Official and Service Ordinary Passports came into effect on May 2, 2019. After the agreement comes into effect, Chinese citizens holding valid diplomatic, official, or service ordinary passports can stay in Papua New Guinea for no more than 30 days without a visa; Those who intend to enter Papua New Guinea for activities such as studying, working, settling, or reporting that require prior approval from the country's competent authorities should apply for the corresponding visa before entering.

Chinese citizens holding valid private passports of the People's Republic of China who enter Papua New Guinea for tourism or visits and stay for no more than 30 days can apply for an e-Visa. When entering, please bring your return or third country connecting ticket for inspection, and bring sufficient travel expenses in Papua New Guinea. Chinese citizens holding valid private passports of the People's Republic of China who participate in approved travel agencies can obtain a 30 day single entry tourist visa free of charge.

If you want to study, work, settle or engage in news reporting in Papua New Guinea, you need to obtain the corresponding visa before entering the country. You can apply for a visa from the Embassy of Papua New Guinea in China, or directly apply for a visa from the Papua New Guinea Immigration Department through relatives, friends, companies, or travel agencies in Papua New Guinea.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

1、 All inbound passengers must truthfully and completely fill out the "Entry Declaration Form" and "Quarantine Declaration Form". False declaration will be considered a criminal offense and will be subject to heavy penalties. The overseas shopping invoice issued by passengers must be genuine and valid. If carrying pastries, plant-based products (such as sauces, flour, tea, roasted peanuts, etc.), canned fruits and vegetables, wooden products, leather products, cooked fish products, and infant formula weighing no more than 1 kilogram, they must declare to the quarantine department and can be released after inspection. Adults over 18 years old are allowed to carry alcohol (up to 1 liter), tobacco products (200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or other tobacco products weighing no more than 250 grams).

Residency and Naturalization

The countries allowed to hold dual citizenship in Papua New Guinea are limited to the following countries: Australia, Fiji, Germany, New Zealand, Samoa, United Kingdom, United States, and Vanuatu. Foreign citizens who have resided continuously in Papua New Guinea for at least 8 years and have not left Papua New Guinea for more than 180 days per year within the 8 years may apply to acquire Papua New Guinea citizenship in accordance with the naturalization requirements of the Immigration and Citizenship Services Agency (ICSA). They may also renounce their acquired Papua New Guinea citizenship or regain their citizenship.

If a foreigner marries a PNG citizen, his or her parents can apply for a foreign passport or a PNG passport for his or her children born during the marriage, or hold passports of both countries at the same time. However, the children must decide whether to retain PNG nationality when they reach the age of 18, otherwise they will be deemed to have abandoned PNG nationality.

The largest airline in Papua New Guinea is the state-owned Air Niugini, which operates routes from the capital Port Moresby to major cities in Papua New Guinea, as well as to Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Fiji, Hong Kong, and the Solomon Islands.
