Visa Entry

1、 Visa

On September 21, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Solomon Islands Foreign Minister Manele in Beijing and signed the Joint Communique between the People's Republic of China and Solomon Islands on Establishing Diplomatic Relations. We will update the relevant information gradually in the future.

Chinese citizens applying for visas must adopt a return visa form, and the specific procedures are as follows:

（1） Identify a guarantor in Solomon.

（2） The guarantor shall bring a copy of the applicant's passport and a letter of guarantee to the Solomon Islands Immigration Office to apply for an entry visa for the applicant, which is generally valid for one month and can be renewed.

（3） To apply for a work visa, the guarantor (Solomon Company, which employs foreign workers) needs to apply for a labor certificate from the Labor Department. The applicant needs to provide documents such as educational certificates, no criminal record certificates, health certificates, guarantee letters, and their translations.

2、 Entry

Passengers are required to fill out an "Entry Registration Card" upon entry, and Solomon Airport authorities will inspect their round-trip tickets and randomly check their health certificates.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

Passengers are strictly prohibited from bringing live animals, feathers, meat and dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and seeds, plant straw, pollen and bee products, grains, biological agents, firearms, flammable and explosive dangerous chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc. into the country.

Adult travelers aged 18 and above are allowed to bring alcohol (2 liters) and tobacco products (250 cigarettes or 50 cigars or other tobacco products weighing no more than 250 grams) into the country.

Special reminder: All inbound passengers must truthfully and completely fill out the "Entry Declaration Form" and "Quarantine Declaration Form".

Residency and Naturalization

Solomon does not recognize dual citizenship. Foreign citizens who have resided continuously in Solomon Islands for at least 10 years may apply to acquire Solomon nationality.

The risk level for Solomon Islands is orange (high risk).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Chinese citizens to travel to the Solomon Islands with caution in the near future. Local personnel and institutions are closely monitoring the situation, maintaining high vigilance, strengthening security precautions and emergency preparedness, and ensuring personal and property safety. In case of emergency, please report to the police in a timely manner and contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in the local area.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and overseas embassies and consulates will continue to closely monitor changes in the overseas security situation, dynamically adjust relevant risk assessments, and release and update corresponding security reminders in real time on platforms such as the China Consular Service Network. The overall security situation is relatively stable, but criminal cases such as robbery and theft occur from time to time. We should attach great importance to it in our thinking and prioritize safety factors when choosing accommodation. When going out, be sure to travel in groups and maintain contact, avoiding going to remote places such as nightclubs, pubs, casinos, etc. Try to avoid going out at night.

Mainly earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity. Floods, mudslides, and landslides occur frequently during the rainy season.

The food hygiene conditions are poor, and the entire area is a malaria epidemic zone with an incidence rate of about 20%. The quality of tap water is poor, it is recommended to drink bottled water as much as possible.

air traffic

The only domestic airline in Solomon Islands is Solomon Airlines, which operates approximately 20 routes to and from various islands in Solomon Islands.

Honiara International Airport is the only international airport in Solomon Islands, located approximately 11 kilometers from the capital city. International flights mainly fly to Brisbane, Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and other destinations in Australia. There are currently no direct flights to China.

You can take taxis and local private buses to and from the airport.

land transport

Solomon's land transportation is underdeveloped. The island has approximately 1900 kilometers of main highways. Among them, there are 100 kilometers of asphalt roads in the capital region and 1770 kilometers of rural dirt roads. The vehicle is driven on the right and left. The local road conditions are generally poor, and self driving should pay attention to safety.

water communication

There are small passenger and cargo ferries operating between the capital Honiara and the outer islands. There are regular sea freight ships heading to Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Japan, Europe, and Hong Kong, China. The capital is the main port.

Urban transportation

The transportation in the city is backward, with only public buses in the capital area stopping at all times and poor hygiene conditions. There is a taxi service, and the fare is mainly negotiated, ranging from 5 to 20 yuan per kilometer.

Main attractions: Coral Sea (the world's largest marginal sea), National Museum, East Rennell Island (the world's largest circular coral island formed by coral deposits).

Commodity prices

The main mineral deposits include bauxite, nickel, copper, gold, phosphate, etc. The total reserve of forest trees is 127 million cubic meters, and the stock volume of commercial timber is 48.1 million cubic meters.

Prices are relatively high. The currency is Solomon Islands dollar (abbreviated as Solomon dollar), with 1 US dollar equivalent to 8.3 Solomon dollars (as of January 2020). Implement Value Added Tax (GST) with a tax rate of 10%.

The main payment methods for purchasing items are cash and check.

The main banks are Solomon Central Bank and Solomon Development Bank. In addition, South Pacific Bank (BSP), Australia and New Zealand Bank (ANZ), West Pacific Bank (WEST PAC), and Bred Bank also have branches in the local area.

Insurance Medical

Poor medical conditions, rudimentary hospital equipment, and a shortage of doctors and medicines.

Common diseases include malaria, cholera, hepatitis, dengue fever, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Medical treatment and medication purchases are mostly settled in cash (note: hospitals are only responsible for diagnosis, and medication purchases need to be made at pharmacies).

2、 Holidays: New Year's Day (January 1), Good Friday (Friday before Easter), Easter (the first Sunday after the full moon after the vernal equinox, between March 22 and April 25), Pentecost (the 50th day after Easter), Queen's official birthday (Saturday closest to June 11), Independence Day (July 7), Christmas (December 25).

3、 Customs taboo: It is customary to shake hands when meeting. Most of the local land is owned by indigenous tribes and passed down from generation to generation. Generally, those with higher seniority in the tribe are landlords, respected by their members, and have decision-making power over internal affairs. The Catholic Church has a significant influence in the local area, where monogamy is practiced. It is particularly important to be cautious when interacting with women and to pay attention to speech and behavior in public places.

The mobile phone standard is GSM, and Chinese mobile communication operators have not yet opened roaming services in Solomon Islands. The main local communication operators are SOLOMON TELEKOM and BMOIL.
