Visa Entry

Chinese citizens holding valid diplomatic, official, or service ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements when entering, leaving, or transiting through Vietnam. The visa free stay period shall not exceed 90 days from the date of entry. If staying in Vietnam for more than 90 days or engaging in activities such as work, study, settlement, or news reporting that require prior approval from the Vietnamese authorities, one should apply for a visa before entering the country. Chinese citizens holding valid ordinary passports entering or leaving the country must apply for visas in advance (except for visa free situations). If they meet the relevant conditions, they can apply for a visa on arrival. The Vietnamese Embassy in China generally issues several types of visas, including DT (investment), DN (enterprise personnel), HN (conference), LD (labor), DL (tourism), etc. Vietnam has added LS (lawyer visa) and EV (electronic visa), and refined some visa types. According to the size of the investment amount, the holding of labor permits, and the nature of business activities, the types of visas are refined, and the validity period of investment visas ranges from 1 to 10 years.

The following situations are exempt from visa entry and exit: holding a valid Vietnamese permanent residence permit or temporary residence permit; Go to port economic zones, special economic administrative zones, and coastal economic zones designated by the government; Vietnamese citizens' spouses and children who have obtained 5-year visa free documents; Directly arrive and depart from Fuguo Island (with a maximum stay of 30 days, if traveling to areas outside Fuguo Island, a visa must be applied for).

Visa free transit requires the following conditions: holding a valid passport or international travel document; Holding a connecting flight ticket or ferry ticket to a third country; Holding a valid visa from a third country (excluding visa free situations); During transit, stay within the restricted transit area at the airport or port.

There are four situations where visa types can be changed within Vietnam: 1. Investment personnel in Vietnam; 2. Individuals who are related to the inviter as parents, spouses, or children; 3. Employed by the employer and obtaining a labor permit or exemption from labor permit; 4. Enter with an electronic visa and obtain a labor permit or exemption from labor permit.

Chinese citizens are often fined by Vietnamese public security authorities for "visa type not matching the purpose of visit". Chinese citizens should apply for the corresponding type of visa based on their actual purpose of going to Vietnam, and should use formal channels when applying for a visa. To engage in business activities in Vietnam, an invitation letter from the Vietnamese reception unit is required.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

According to relevant regulations of Vietnamese customs, cash not exceeding 15 million Vietnamese dong and US dollars or equivalent foreign currency not exceeding 5000 US dollars can be carried with you when entering or leaving the country. Any excess must be declared and proof of legal source must be provided. When domestic groups, Chinese companies, and individual citizens come to Vietnam, if they exceed the limit, they must fill out an entry and exit declaration form and keep it properly for future reference when leaving the country. If the group fees of domestic groups exceed the above amount, they should be kept separately to avoid being confiscated.

Vietnamese customs prohibit inbound travelers from carrying flammable, explosive, corrosive, highly toxic, radioactive, odorous items, various types of food, pornographic books, DVDs, unhygienic animals, plants, and weapons. When leaving the country, you can only bring one bottle of alcohol and two cigarettes. Please do not bring items for strangers when entering or leaving the country.

Residency and Naturalization

According to Vietnamese law, foreign citizens entering Vietnam must declare their residence to the local public security organs within 12 or 24 hours (in remote areas). If staying in a hotel, the hotel shall declare on behalf of the resident. If residing in the home of a local resident in Vietnam, the head of the household shall declare to the local police station. If you change your place of residence during your stay in Vietnam, you must declare your residence to the public security organ in your current place of residence. When entering Vietnam, the immigration management department will indicate the duration of stay based on the validity period of the visa, with a maximum stay period of 30 days for tourist visas. If staying for a long time, one should apply for a residence permit corresponding to the visa type according to regulations. If the residence expires, the receiving unit or individual can apply for an extension of residence to the entry and exit management authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Public Security.

The Vietnamese Nationality Law stipulates that the Vietnamese government does not recognize dual nationality. If a citizen of another country acquires Vietnamese nationality, they must renounce their original nationality. Vietnamese citizens who acquire other nationalities lose their Vietnamese nationality.

Special ReminderWhen Chinese citizens enter Vietnam (by land or airport), if they have already obtained a visa for Vietnam in China, there is no need to pay any additional fees at the port; If applying for an electronic visa, please print out the paper version of the electronic visa certificate in advance to avoid any impact on entry due to insufficient preparation. If you need to apply for a visa on arrival, you need to pay the corresponding fees according to the regulations and the type of visa applied for.

Chinese citizens traveling to Vietnam are not allowed to live in private residences on their own (except for those living in the homes of Vietnamese spouses), visit local factories or engage in other non tourism activities. Holding a group tourist visa to travel to Vietnam requires accompanying group activities. If there are any changes to the itinerary or related needs, they should be reported to the local public security organs in advance. According to the Law on the Entry Exit, Transit and Residence of Vietnamese Foreigners and 144/2021/ND-CP Decree, failure to declare residence as required will result in a fine of 500000 to 15 million Vietnamese dong, and activities in Vietnam that are inconsistent with the purpose of entry will result in a fine of 15 to 20 million Vietnamese dong, and those with serious circumstances will be detained or deported.

Vietnam's risk level is blue (low risk)

public security

The overall social security in Vietnam is good, but criminal cases such as motorcycle racing robbery, burglary, and fraud occur from time to time. Suggestions for taking the following preventive measures: 1) When entering and leaving hotels, markets, or other public places, pay attention to keeping personal belongings safe to prevent theft and robbery; 2) Do not let vendors polish their shoes at tourist attractions, and do not visit mobile vendors to prevent property from being robbed or stolen; 3) When money, documents are lost or other accidents occur, one should immediately report to the nearby police station; 4) Do not purchase so-called "customs confiscated goods" or other goods of unknown origin for the sake of cheapness, in order to avoid being deceived; 5) Do not participate in gambling activities; 6) Do not enter or exit pornographic venues; 7) Avoid going to unfamiliar and remote places at night; 8) There are many cases of motorcycle theft in Ho Chi Minh City, and there are also occasional incidents in Da Nang City. Please keep your passport and valuables safe. Be vigilant when using cameras and mobile phones on streets and intersections; 9) Elderly tourism groups should avoid traveling alone to avoid getting lost, and remember the phone numbers of the leader, tour guide, and embassy in Vietnam; 10) Do not drive motor vehicles in Vietnam without obtaining a Vietnamese driver's license; 11) When purchasing travel products, one should go to a reputable travel company to avoid being deceived; 12) Avoid entering places involving pornography and drugs, refrain from participating in any form of gambling activities, and avoid being extorted, kidnapped, or illegally detained; 13) Be cautious when riding human powered tricycles and unlicensed taxis to avoid being overcharged; 14) Be cautious in blind dates, be wary of illegal cross-border marriage agencies, and prevent marriage fraud; 15) Please understand the employer's business qualifications and actual business situation in advance when going to work in Vietnam, clarify the specific work to be engaged in after going abroad, be alert to online so-called "high salary recruitment" information, and avoid falling into illegal and criminal traps such as telecommunications fraud.

natural disaster

Vietnam is a typhoon prone season from July to November each year, with some coastal cities such as Haiphong and Danang being heavily affected by typhoons. Every year during the rainy season, floods occur in the southern Mekong Delta, causing serious impacts on the production and daily life of local people. It is recommended to pay attention to the local weather forecast before traveling. Do not go to the disaster site to avoid danger.

FDA

Vietnam is a tropical region with poor hygiene conditions, so it is important to pay attention to dietary hygiene. Dining should be done in regular hotels or restaurants, and not at roadside stalls or small restaurants. When dining, try not to eat raw or cold food, and try not to add ice cubes when drinking beer or beverages. It is recommended to use disposable chopsticks and carry disinfectant wipes with you for future use.

Customs taboos

Vietnamese people usually greet each other when they meet, or nod their heads, or shake hands, or hug each other according to French etiquette. People of similar age are usually called brothers and sisters.

Vietnamese clothing is relatively simple to wear, with men generally wearing suits for formal occasions and women wearing ethnic style "long shirts" (similar to cheongsams) and long pants.

The dietary habits are similar to some ethnic groups in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan in China, with rice as the main staple food, preferring light, cold, sour, and spicy foods, and using chopsticks.

Vietnam has been deeply influenced by Chinese culture, with a greater emphasis on Buddhism and Catholicism. Vietnamese people generally worship their ancestors, such as the City God and God of Wealth. Traditional festivals are similar or identical to those in China, and the most solemn festival is the Lunar New Year.

Avoid letting people touch their heads, and when sitting on the ground, do not point your feet at others.

Communications Power

The power supply voltage in Vietnam is 220 volts, and hotels generally use three-phase sockets. If necessary, hotels can be requested to provide conversion sockets.

Vietnam has three mobile phone companies: Mobifone, Vinafone, and Viettel. You can bring your own mobile phone and purchase prepaid phone cards with different face values locally according to your needs. They can be recharged and the price is cheap.

If roaming is enabled for domestic mobile phones in China, they can be used in Vietnam. Please consult the telecommunications department for the cost.
