Visa Entry

Chinese citizens entering Yemen need to obtain a visa, and holding a diplomatic passport is exempt from visa fees. For specific visa requirements and procedures, please inquireYemeni Embassy in China.

When entering the country, an entry registration card must be filled out, and the immigration office will verify the validity of the passport and visa before release. In general, immigration officials have a slower inspection speed and need to be patient. After being inspected by the immigration office, the customs will inspect the luggage. If there are no issues, the luggage can be cleared.

Customs epidemic prevention and control

Passengers are allowed to bring an appropriate amount of personal belongings into the country, including 400 cigarettes, two pieces of new clothes of different styles, two types of personal medicines, and a small amount of personal appliances. Items used for commercial purposes are subject to taxation. In addition to internationally recognized regulations, restricted items for entry and exit also include pork and pork products, coffee, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, flora and fauna, weapons and explosives, and rhino horns. Passengers who bring in or out cash exceeding $3000 must declare it voluntarily.

Residency and Naturalization

1、 According to relevant regulations in Yemen, foreign citizens who enter the country should leave or apply for a residence permit extension before their visa or entry permit expires. Those who violate the regulations will be fined. Departure requires obtaining a departure visa in advance.

2、 Foreigners may apply for Yemeni nationality under the following circumstances:

(1) The nationality of the father is unknown, and the mother is of Yemeni nationality. If the child has resided in Yemen for more than 10 years and behaves well, they can apply for Yemeni nationality.

(2) Foreign couples residing in Yemen, whose children born in Yemen are over 18 years old and have good behavior, may apply for Yemeni citizenship.

(3) Foreigners who have made outstanding contributions to Yemen and the Arab world can apply for Yemeni nationality if they have legal residence certificates in Yemen.

Since the outbreak of the Yemen War in March 2015, the security risks have been extremely high, with terrorist forces spreading and frequent bombings and assassinations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy in Yemen have issued consular security reminders, reminding Chinese citizens not to travel to Yemen temporarily.

Before the outbreak of the war, theft, robbery and kidnapping occurred frequently in Yemen. In recent years, there have been many robbery and kidnapping cases against foreigners and Chinese citizens, as well as terrorist attacks against foreigners. Personnel who come here should raise their awareness of security precautions, take security measures, and if necessary, hire specialized security guards from local security companies. Do not store or carry large amounts of cash around you, and do not hand over personal passports or other documents to strangers. It is best to keep the information of passports and other documents separately while keeping them properly. The southern part of Yemen has a tropical arid climate, with two seasons of cool and hot each year. The hot season is from April to October, with an average temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. November to March is the cool season, with an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall is 50 millimeters. There are many climate types in the north, with a gentle slope extending towards the Rubhali Desert to the east. The western Red Sea coast is the Timah region, with a hot and humid climate. Summer temperatures generally range from 35-40 degrees Celsius, humidity is 80-90%, and annual rainfall is below 400 millimeters.

The average altitude of the capital Sana'a is 2200 meters, with a mild climate and abundant sunshine. The summer temperature generally does not exceed 30 ℃, and the lowest temperature in winter is 0 ℃. The annual rainfall is about 250 millimeters. Sana'a has two rainy seasons a year, with March and April being the light rainy season and July and August being the heavy rainy season. Due to the outdated drainage facilities in Sana city, floods often occur during the rainy season.

The hygiene conditions in Yemen are poor, and tap water cannot be consumed directly. Eat less or avoid cold dishes when dining outside, do not add ice cubes to drinks, peel fruits, and try not to buy food from small restaurants or street vendors.

Before the war, there were Yemen Airlines (state-owned) and Felix Airlines (private) in Yemen. In addition, Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airlines, Egypt Airlines, Gulf Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Türkiye Airlines and others have offices in Sana'a.

Yemen Airlines has regular flights from Sana'a to Guangzhou (suspended since May 2011), while other routes to China require layovers in third countries.

Four cities in Yemen, namely Sana'a, Aden, Mukkala, and Hodeidah, have international airports; Eight cities including Taz, Atgo, Saion, Gaida, Malibu, Buka, Beida, Sada, and Socotra have domestic airports.
